Benjamin Banneker Elementary - from then to now

The Original Banneker Elementary School was built in 1858 on West Street. This school was used from 1858 until 1921.

The second Banneker Elementary school was originally named Milford School #3. This school consisted of five classrooms, housing eight grades and employing five teachers.

In 1935, additions were made to Milford School #3. In 1941 the school was renamed Benjamin Banneker Elementary in honor of the distinguished mathematician and scientist. When the school closed in June 2003 , it was the oldest functioning elementary school in the State of Delaware.

In 2003, the new Benjamin Banneker Elementary opened its doors. The new school is a state of the art facility. The school consists of
